BTH 710 - Ethics and Research Integrity
In this course, participants will learn about the imperative for integrity and its common violations – falsification, plagiarism, fabrication, and other deviant behaviors.
BTH 711 - Human Rights Law and Bioethics
The aim of this course is to give students an introduction to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA), Safe and sexual harassment free working environment (SASHFWE). There has been very little published about these issues from a Nigerian or African perspective so the lectures will draw from international literature but infuse information from contemporary events and publications to make up for the limitations in currently published literature.
BTH 707 – Quantitative Research Methods in Bioethics
This course will introduce students to methods of quantitative research and their use in Bioethics. The theoretical basis of these research methods will be discussed and students will have readings and exercises illustrating each of the methods. The strengths and weaknesses of each method will be discussed and their application to specific research questions in Bioethics will be considered.
BTH 706 – Qualitative Research Methods in Bioethics
The overall aim of the module is to teach students how to conduct qualitative research in Bioethics. The module will provide students with training in how to conduct qualitative research in general and how to apply these techniques to Bioethical Inquiry. The theoretical basis of the different methods of conducting qualitative research will be studied and compared.
BTH 709 – Law and Bioethics
While there has been limited development of legal instruments and guidelines around DEIA, CoI, and SASHFWE within research and academic contexts in Nigeria, there are emerging trends and judge-derived laws from litigations that have occurred. Examples from other countries also serve as precedents for what is likely to be considered legal and the sanctions that may be implemented in Nigeria. This module will introduce students to the law in general and those that affect DEIA, CoI, and SASHFWE in particular.
BTH 721 – Introduction to Public Health, Biomedical, Social, Behavioral, and Data Science Research Ethics
In this course "Introduction to Public Health, Biomedical, Social, Behavioral, and Data Science Research Ethics", participants will be introduced to research ethics in public health,
biomedical, social, and behavioral science research. The course will revolve around
pivotal cases in research ethics, and these will be used to elaborate the principles and
practices of research ethics in these different fields.
BTH 702 - Introduction to Philosophy
The aim of this course is to introduce students to the moral philosophical principles underlying human behavior relevant to the discipline. We focus on the moral philosophies and consider case scenarios to promote ability of trainees to engage and disseminate principles that support responsible conduct of research (RCR), research and scientific integrity (RSI), diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA), and safe and sexual harassment free research working environment (SASHFWE). Current events will also be used to illustrate the concepts taught in this course
BTH 703 – Research Designs and Grant Proposal Development
This course "Research Designs and Grant Proposal Development" aims to take much of the mystery out of grant writing by walking learners through the process one step at a time with in-depth instruction. It examines the different research designs and the processes required in developing a proposal for a research grant application.
